About occupational therapy assistant
As an occupational therapy assistant, you will support occupational therapists in helping clients regain independence and improve their quality of life. You will work directly with individuals, families, and communities facing physical, mental, or developmental challenges, assisting them in performing daily activities such as self-care, work, leisure, and social participation. Your role bridges the gap between the therapeutic vision set by the occupational therapist and the practical implementation of interventions in real-world settings.
Your day-to-day responsibilities will include assisting with patient assessments, implementing therapeutic activities under supervision, documenting progress, and providing encouragement and support to clients. You may help individuals regain fine motor skills after an injury, support children with developmental delays in learning school routines, or help elderly clients adapt their homes for safer living. You will work in diverse settings including hospitals, rehabilitation centres, community clinics, schools, and clients' homes, requiring adaptability and compassion.
