As a gravure press operator, you will be responsible for managing large-scale rotogravure printing equipment that produces high-volume printed materials such as packaging, magazines, and catalogues. Your day-to-day responsibilities include setting up the press before production runs, monitoring the printing process to ensure consistent quality and colour accuracy, adjusting machine settings in real-time, and performing routine maintenance tasks such as cleaning ink rollers and replacing doctor blades. You will work closely with prepress teams to understand job specifications and ensure that test runs meet quality standards before full production begins. This role is critical to maintaining production schedules and preventing costly downtime or quality issues that could affect customer satisfaction and company profitability.

Production Monitoring and Quality Control
- Continuously monitor the automated printing process to detect deviations in colour, registration, or print quality
- Conduct periodic quality checks during production runs and compare printed samples against quality standards
- Adjust ink viscosity, pressure, and colour values to maintain consistency throughout the print run
- Record production data and follow the production schedule to meet delivery deadlines
Machine Maintenance and Troubleshooting
- Perform routine maintenance tasks including cleaning ink rollers, replacing doctor blades, and checking for wear
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions such as registration issues, ink supply problems, or mechanical failures
- Supply the machine with ink, substrate, and other consumables as needed to maintain continuous operation
- Communicate equipment issues to maintenance technicians and follow up on repairs
Test Run Execution
- Conduct test runs before full production to validate machine settings and colour accuracy
- Produce prepress proofs and compare them against customer specifications and approved colour standards
- Make fine adjustments to achieve exact colour matching and ensure quality approval before high-volume production
Safety and Compliance
- Follow all safety precautions when operating the gravure press, including proper lockout/tagout procedures
- Wear required personal protective equipment and maintain a clean, hazard-free work environment
- Report safety concerns and incidents to supervisors and participate in safety training programs
