As an anaesthetic technician, you will work in a highly specialized healthcare environment supporting anaesthetists and surgeons during surgical procedures and anaesthetic management. Your role involves preparing operating theatres with sterile equipment, setting up complex anaesthetic apparatus, monitoring patient vitals during procedures, and assisting with post-operative recovery. You must maintain strict infection control protocols, ensure all equipment is properly sterilized, and respond quickly to emergency situations. This position requires both technical expertise in medical equipment and compassion for patients, as you'll be supporting vulnerable individuals during critical medical moments. - Ensure proper sterilization and functionality of all surgical instruments and equipment before procedures
- Maintain organized stock levels of anaesthetic drugs, supplies, and equipment for immediate availability during emergencies
Patient Care and Monitoring
- Assist anaesthetists with patient positioning and preparation for surgical procedures
- Monitor patient vital signs including heart rate, blood pressure, oxygen saturation, and temperature during procedures
- Empathize with patients and their families to reduce anxiety before and after surgical interventions
- Assist with post-anaesthesia procedures and monitor patient recovery in the intensive care or recovery unit
Infection Control and Safety
- Apply surgical asepsis principles and infection control protocols throughout all theatre procedures
- Perform sterilization techniques on surgical instruments using autoclaves and other approved sterilization methods
- Maintain strict protocols for equipment handling, storage, and disposal to prevent cross-contamination and disease transmission
Emergency Response and Medical Knowledge
- Respond immediately to emergency situations such as cardiac arrest, respiratory distress, or anaphylactic reactions
- Assist with resuscitation procedures and administer first aid using established emergency protocols
- Apply knowledge of pharmacology and anaesthetics to assist with drug administration and dosing
- Manage healthcare users' data securely and maintain confidentiality according to medical informatics standards
Preoperative and Postoperative Procedures
- Conduct preoperative investigations and assessments to ensure patients are ready for anaesthesia and surgery
- Deal with postoperative emergency care situations and support patient recovery in critical care environments
